Friday June 17th
Half day! Perform Group's summer hours end at noon on Fridays :-) Sara was out today on a business trip and Amy and Jessica (other designers) don't work Fridays during the summer, so somehow it ended up being just the three interns in the design department today. Carol had left us a project to do - making a display board of the 2011 accessories and props as a resource so we worked on that - cutting boards, making copies, cutting the images, sorting, taping, etc. I also went into the sample cutting room for a bit and talked to Sharon and Linda, two of the sewers. Sharon is in charge and Linda does the leos. Linda showed me what she was working on and then she let me mark some of the pieces that she would be assembling later. I also got to watch her put an applique on a leo using the heat press.

This morning, Linda came out and asked me if I wanted to come watch her glue some of the leos - she was assembling the ones I had marked on Friday. They use a air pressure tool with a foot pedal to apply the glue through a syringe - all those appliqued pieces have to be glued down before they can be zigzagged. The glue used is washable so it will come completly out in the first washing and won't lose any stretch. This is how all the Alpha leos are done but this was actually a fancy tank for the Holiday Aerials line that she was working on. The rest of the day Ashley and I finished up our design project and printed out the sketches.
Tuesday June 21st
Today was our design review for the gymnastics project. Ashley and I each presented our designs (4-5 Aerials, 3 Alpha and 1 warmup) to all three designers and they gave us feedback, suggestions and told us which we'd be taking through the entire process and might get to see in the catalog in a year :-) It sounds likely that I'll see some of my designs in at least the Aerials Pro Shop catalog (workout leos) for 2012 so that's pretty exciting. Jessica will be helping us work on the paperwork over the next week and then we'll see them start to go through the sample process - patterns to cutting to finished samples!
After that, Sara showed the three interns what we will be doing with excess fabric in order to get it ready to sell on ebay. Ashley and I will be in charge of the measuring and Maurya will photograph, upload and sell them. Luckily everyone wore flats today because we ended up climbing on a ladder in the warehouse to get to some of the excess bolts!
On Tuesday afternoon, Ashley and I worked some more on measuring and labeling fabric for the ebay store. Mid afternoon, Sara invited us to participate in an interview of an intern candidate for the fall. This would be the first time they have a non summer intern. Perform Group is trying to support co-op programs. There will be another candidate tomorrow. It was interesting to get a chance to look at someone else's portfolio from a different school and compare to what I see at my school.
Wednesday June 22nd
In the morning, Ashley and I spent more time working on the fabric project and also spent some time talking to Jessica about upcoming events and trips we will be going on - dance competitions, our NY trips, etc. Right after lunch we participated in another interview for the fall intern position.
